Synopsis: This report examines the effects of new media such as such as blogs, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, on ‘contentious politics’ and their ability to promote freedom and democracy. The report lists five levels at which new media might impact on politics. It also features a case study of the Iranian election of 2009.
