It was mostly a meet-and-greet event over drinks. Each briefly introduced him/herself and shared what they do for work in Cambodia. Jane gave a brief overview of the C4D network. It was a free-flowing discussion but all agreed that knowledge sharing is important. Among the topics discussed included youth media in Cambodia, media landscape (and the lack and need thereof). It was recommendations that check out reports made by the Asia Foundation or the PCIJ-ASEAN.
Also discussed was telecomms use in social media (and a reference to the Open Institute in Cambodia), mobile technology and messaging research, mobile messaging for behavior change, and the use of SMS for reproductive health campaigns and monitoring.
The group was eager to have another meet-up, but no date set yet.
Tips for other organisers?
It was the first meet-up in Phnom Penh, and there were very few of us who came so an informal chat was just appropriate. Perhaps in succeeding meet-ups of larger groups, more structure and a host/moderator would help.
