September 26, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

  • « Social and Behavioural Change and Climate Action Discussion
  • Digital inclusion beyond access: The struggle for a sustainable and accountable digital equality »

Emiliano Treré  is a Senior Lecturer in Media Ecologies and Social Transformation in the School of Journalism, Media and Culture at Cardiff University. He is the author of Hybrid Media Activism: Ecologies, Imaginaries, Algorithms (Routledge, 2018), winner of the Outstanding Book Award of the ICA Activism, Communication and Social Justice Interest Group. Emiliano reflects on the current and future challenges of research into the evolving relationship between media technologies and social movements (what he calls the Media/Movement Dynamic: MMD). Relying on an extensive meta-analysis of the scholarship and drawing on his own research over the last ten years, he illustrates the key lessons of the last two decades of inquiry into the MMD and then maps the pressing challenges and the novel lines of inquiry of this growing area of study.
