Strengthening the voice of people with lived experience in campaigns for social change (London, UK)
July 10, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 1:30 pm
Participatory Learning Event led by people with lived experience
This free interactive and participatory event will discuss issues around engaging people who experience poverty and inequality in a more meaningful way in campaigns for social change.
The event will be led and facilitated by people with lived experience from three organisations: On Road Media, Women for Refugee Women, and Revolving Doors, who are co-hosting the event with Trust for London.
Funders and campaigners are beginning to recognise the importance of having individuals with lived experience as key drivers for social change. However, handing over, or sharing power and control can be challenging and may often require rethinking and reshaping conventional models of funding and involvement.
The main aims of the event will be to:
- Draw on the experience of (and hear from) organisations who have developed successful models of engagement;
- Encourage organisations and funders to identify best practice in strengthening the voice of people directly affected by poverty and inequality so they can bring about more effective social change;
- Identify effective ways to ensure that people are supported to share their stories safely, in the context of collective action.
Places are limited so please register as soon as possible.
