Humanitarian Journalism Today (15 October, London, UK) – film screening and report launch

September 29, 2018

This event is about the journalists who report on humanitarian crises today. It launches a major new report from Martin Scott, Kate Wright and Mel Bunce, The State of Humanitarian Journalism, based on four years of research. This report shows which news outlets report on humanitarian issues, how they frame their stories, and what audiences think about this news.

A panel of leading journalists and media commentators will discuss the findings and their own experiences reporting on humanitarian crises, including:

  • Josephine Schmidt, Executive Editor at IRIN, the world’s oldest humanitarian newswire
  • James Copnall, Newsday presenter, BBC World Service
  • Tom Law, Director of Campaigns and Communications, The Ethical Journalism Network
  • Stefanie Glinski, Freelance journalist and photographer, currently based in Afghanistan.

This is followed by a screening of the celebrated documentary, ‘Another News Story’ about the journalists who reported on the 2015 ‘refugee crisis’ in Europe.

Global Disability Summit 2018 ( 24 July, London, UK): Background and themes

July 30, 2018

The Global Disability Summit aims to raise global attention and focus on a long-neglected area, mobilise new global and national commitments on disability and showcase good practice, innovation and evidence from across the world.

Globally, an estimated one billion people have a disability, of which 800 million live in developing countries. In these countries, disability is both a cause and consequence of poverty and people often face significant barriers that prevent them from participating fully in society, including getting a quality education and employment.

DFID’s ambition is to make the Global Disability Summit a world-first and a landmark celebration the achievements and rights of people with disabilities, and one that creates an enduring impact and lasting change for people with disabilities around the world.

Join us at our C4D Network Creative Planning Day (12 August, Oxford, UK/global)

July 23, 2018

On 12 August the C4D Network will be having a creative planning day in Oxford. Interested members are warmly welcome to join us as we brainstorm some interesting and valuable new content and plans for launch in October after our August Network holiday.

We are looking for members who would like to be ‘animators’ and who could do a variety of new things (not too onerous!) such as developing c4d author interviews; blogs; thematic sections, or maybe some video content or animations, whatever we all feel like. We are a community of creatives after all so let’s have some fun!

Our Oxford day will start at 10:30 with lunch provided and some cool Oxford activities included – with punting at the end of the day! Please contact Jackie Davies directly ([email protected]) if you would like to come or find out more.

There will also be a time slot in the day for members outside of Oxford/UK to also join the planning (2 – 3:30) and it would be brilliant to have you so don’t let geography limit the imagination.
