This publication explores issues of gender in ICT4D project and is based on case study research conducted among Connect4Change projects in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. The publication pulls together insights and learning around the effects of ICT uptake and use on women’s empowerment and gender relations in agricultural value chain development, maternal and child health, and hospital management information systems projects, and includes the 3 case studies as separate and stand alone documents for more information.
Participatory Video and the Most Significant Change: a guide for facilitators (InsightShare 2015)
This year was marked by the UN as a year for evaluation and this guide is designed to support those planning and carrying out evaluation using Participatory Video (PV) with the Most Significant Change technique (or PVMSC for short.) This is a participatory approach to monitoring, evaluation and learning that amplifies the voices of participants and helps organisations to better understand and improve their programmes.
The guide provides references to articles and publications which discuss the theory and practice of using PV for monitoring and evaluation in more detail as well as the practical application of the tool. It is designed to be easy to use and was created in response to requests for guidance made to InsightShare on using PV for monitoring and evaluation.
The guide has been produced with support from UNICEF in partnership with C4D Network.

Linking generations through radio: a toolkit from Africa for radio producers working with children and youth (UNESCO, 2013)
UNESCO’s radio toolkit – Linking Generations through Radio – is an open access document, which is inspired by children and youth who make up one-third of the world’s population. The majority may listen to radio but the likelihood they are invited to regularly produce interviews and programmes, express their information needs or their opinions about productions made for them is very low.
The 62-page radio toolkit provides inclusive examples to allow free exchange of ideas between girls and boys and increase awareness of radio producers and managers about ethical and legal requirements particularly when working with minors. It may serve as a routine training or programming handbook in radio stations, a reference and resource for young people, and an advocacy tool to inform policy makers as well as the general public.
Mobile for Development: Transforming Global Healthcare Through Mobile Technology (AIDF report 2015)
With the ascent of mobile technology and increased connectivity across the globe, the digital divide is slowly closing. As technological changes and solution-based innovations forge ahead in the next few years, the mobile landscape will be transformed. In the current climate, concerns are focused on unsustainable consumer businesses around mHealth and a highly regulated healthcare market that may restrict the use of mobile devices for healthcare purposes.
This Aid & International Development Forum (AIDF) Mobile for Development report attempts to address these challenges, together with recommendations and next steps to take the mHealth into the next innovation stage. This first report highlights the global scale of mHealth adoption, latest trends, economic impact and the increasing preference for remote monitoring with patients.
